The opening sprays of .Oddity Fragrance’s Dead Air smells like the cucumber water scent of violet leaf poured over a recently crashed meteor to create a steamy mineral haze hanging over pulverised, smouldering earth. This dissipates and introduces a heart of salt-rubbed vetiver outlined in inky brush strokes of resinous opoponax. There’s a sliver of sweetness lurking in the deep drydown of Dead Air that creates a compelling yet comfortable counterbalance to spikier tonalities.
Dead Air is a high concept, daringly gothic fragrance; however, despite how challenging its character is, perfumer Mark Buxton has composed its notes at a respectful volume. Throughout its considerable amount of time on skin, Dead Air never comes across as too loud or overbearing.
If you’re a fan of his work for Comme des Garcons, you’ll most likely enjoy Dead Air very much.
